Stem cells have regenerative properties for our body.

Epidermal stem cells are located in the deepest layer of the epidermis (stratum basale).

In this layer, in a seventh half of the cells are stem cells. They do not differ externally from other cells in the basal layer, although they have a very special mission: constant renewal of the epidermis by forming new keratinocytes, and regeneration of damaged tissue. Because they are the only cells able to divide themselves. Whereas the epidermis of the young skin regenerates entirely  in about four weeks, this process slows down with increasing age.

On one hand, the number of epidermal stem cells decreases and on the other hand, their effectiveness is lessened. As a result, the skin thins and wrinkles, the hydrolipidic film is refined, making the skin drier and more fragile. As, during the life, no new epidermal stem cell is created, it is especially important to maintain as long as possible the vitality and capacity of these valuable division epidermal cells.
